Duel:iPad vs Kindle

Read this article

With new electronic readers being designed to go hand in hand with e-books many consumers are trying to figure out which product is the best. While Amazon has the Kindle and Kindle DX, Apple has just released the iPad which will be a competitor. In the article “ 4 Reasons the Kindle is Dead, 4 Reasons It’s Not” Josh Catone explains the pros and cons of iPad only costing 10 dollars more than the DX yet has 4 times the amount of storage for e-books and applications. Also the iPad not only reads e-books but has thousands of applications for social networking, games, or Internet. Overall the iPad looks better than the kindle has it has a color screen and a smoother finish. Next Catone goes over the strength of the Kindle. The first being that the E-ink display is easier to read in different settings of light and dark and is easier on the eyes for reading for long periods of time. The Kindle also has free Internet built in while the iPad has a monthly charge of 15 dollars a month. Another advantage is that Amazon has a much bigger e-book selection of well over 400,000 thousand books and articles. Lastly the Kindle has a much better battery life than the iPad. Ultimately the article concludes to whether the Kindle DX is outdated for if the iPad is the wave of the future.

The reason why someone interested in finding out if e-books will be the wave of the future need to understand the platforms they will be used on. The better the base platform the more likely e-books will sell. Another key to this article is that it is unbiased to our knowledge. While other news publications might support one over the other this seems to be a bias argument both ways. By understanding the pros and cons of both new readers one can say come up with a clear conclusion whether the e-book has a chance of taking over or is just a technological fad. Also one has to be educated on each device in order to make an informed decision. Competitors often try to one up each other in the market in order to persuade customers into buying their product. If one was to try to argue for e-books or not they would need to have reasons why. The why could be the negatives on the devices used for them or the positives for them that would allow for e-books to thrive in the future.
